Product Designer/User Experience Designer

Location: IBM Centre – Markham ON

What is CSD?

CSD develops and innovates legal technologies and is currently investing in dispute resolution processes specifically designed to address family law and keep family disputes out of court the court system.  The goal of this project is to implement processes that are less destructive; both financially, emotionally and, more than anything else less destructive for the children involved.

We are a successful start-up venture with 4 years experience in developing restorative dispute resolution processes. We are about innovation: regularly breaking down legal processes, challenging assumptions, engaging, rearranging and repositioning professional expertise with great emphasis on how we can offer clients increased creative options and dispute resolution solutions.

Our legal “innovation and disruption” lab is located at the IBM Offices in Markham ON .

Who we are looking for?

The Product Designer/User Experience Designerwill be the technical representative of our initial 2-4 member R&D design team.  This position is a pioneering front-end experience position and will require multi-disciplinary skills in order to create and guide our product development while ensuring that a marketable product is delivered to our end users.  Together this team will gather market intelligence, perform customer research, translate customer “needs” and “wants” into technical requirements, and the Product Designer/User Experience Designerwill be tasked with shepherding those requirements through to delivery by implementing the UI/UX design.  We require an individual that understands the importance of great UI/UX. This person will recognize the importance of great usability and design across platforms such as mobile, web, and tablet.

We require a Product Designer/User Experience Designerwho is entrepreneur-minded and results-oriented individual to lead, architect, design, develop and deliver innovative dispute resolution processes and solutions for our end users, clients and partners. We are looking for a very personable, articulate, enthusiastic, all-hands-on-deck, highly motivated, self-organized and  detail-oriented individual to help lead our team into our next phase of development.

The hired candidate will work with a small (2-4 person) development sprint team and must be able to perform and produce in 7-21 day sprint cycles while working collaboratively with other team members. We need a strong, vibrant, vocal and most importantly organized contributor, someone who can foster collaborative development practices in our innovation and disruption lab and promote those practices to the rest of the team and to our constituents.

Our Product Designer/User Experience Designermust be a creative problem-solvers with a curious mind, who can both teach and learn with their Sprint Team. Someone who can get up to speed quickly and move between projects seamlessly. Above all, they need to be a technology innovator – someone who strives to be on the cutting edge, thirsty for knowledge and constantly looking for ways to apply new tech and new ideas to solve problems.

What are the requirements and qualifications for this role?

  • 3+ years experience in UX design across all major platforms
  • Experience creating and delivering software products wire frames and prototypes as a front end designer, architect.
  • Knowledge and experience working with HTML and CSS.
  • Experience with tools such as Balsamic, Just in Mind, InVision, Illustrator, etc.
  • Excels working in an agile environment with constant change.
  • The ability to easily communicate and collaborate with others.
  • Experience making decisions backed by data & metrics
  • Experience in building modern web and mobile applications.
  • Understanding of media & design, cognitive sciences, design theory, cultural modification.
  • Experience with agile software development and lean start-up methodologies.
  • Self-motivated, eager to take ownership and initiative, with the ability to prioritize efforts and deliver excellent work in a timely fashion.
  • Degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience.

  • Plan, design, build high fidelity prototypes solutions that will be commercially deployed.
  • Evaluate new and existing technology (competitors) for its ability to contribute to solving our targeted problems.
  • Effectively communicate research findings, conceptual ideas, user stories and acceptance criteria both verbally and visually.
  • Mentor fellow lab members on software development concepts and practices.
